Organic olive oil producer Bellucci Premium responds to an article discussing how the Mediterranean diet, which is rich in nuts and olive oil, can help lower the risk of peripheral artery disease (PAD).
In an article published by Science Daily on January 21st titled "Mediterranean diet associated with lower risk of peripheral artery disease," the effects of a Mediterranean diet on peripheral artery disease are discussed. Over a five-year span, patients with a high-risk for PAD who followed a control, low-fat diet were compared to high-risk PAD patients on a Mediterranean diet supplemented with nuts and extra virgin olive oil.
The study found that those who followed the Mediterranean diet reduced their risk of PAD by two-thirds. This study, conducted by the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain, is the first of its kind. Researchers say, "Until now, the hypothesis that the Mediterranean diet might reduce the risk of PAD had not been tested in a randomized trial."
Natalie Sexenian, the marketing manager for Italian olive oil producer Bellucci Premium, says, "Adhering to a Mediterranean diet can not only reduce the risk of PAD, but also many other heart and blood-related illnesses like stroke, cardiovascular disease, and high blood pressure." She says, "The not-so-secret natural ingredients in extra virgin olive oil that help to reduce these heart and blood-related issues are omega fatty acids, monounsaturated fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and numerous antioxidants. Some people may be alarmed at the word 'fats' when thinking about heart health, but the reality is that monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are heart healthy and promote overall well being. These healthy fats lubricate the blood vessels, making it more difficult for clots to form."
Bellucci offers three different types of oil, including an organic option, with a mild peppery flavor and fruity undertones that will satisfy any palate. Bellucci Premium Toscano extra virgin olive oil uses olives that are grown on the beautiful landscapes of Tuscany, and maintained by 3rd and 4th generation farmers. The third type of oil Bellucci produces is the finest 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil, grown in many different regions of Italy.
